Happy New Year!

We look forward to seeing you all on Monday 6th January at 8.40am

Thank you for your support last term in ensuring that the children look so smart in their full uniforms since their return.  We enjoyed a busy Autumn term. There have been numerous Whole School celebrations: masses, several class assemblies, involving Reception, Year 3, Year 5 and Year 6, all of which were very well supported.  There has also been several sporting trips including Triathlon, Indoor Athletics, Squash and Y5/6 Tag Rugby.

The children had an exciting and spiritual time of preparation for Christmas, with the Autumn Fayre, the Advent Mass, the Christmas Productions and our annual Pantomime visits.

On Wednesday 20th November, Mr Lynn led an informal discussion on E-safety.  All who came would agree that it was both informative and thought provoking.  We hope to have further meetings to help keep you fully informed and ensure you are up to date with a rapidly changing technological world.

A huge thank you to the parents and children who were in attendance at the celebration of the Year of Faith Mass at St Mary's Cathedral on Saturday 23rd November. Five of our children spoke about the impact of the Year of Faith on our school, speaking about the 40th Anniversary celebrations, the impact of the Diocesan Youth Mission Team and Prayer Group.

November 5th is a day many of us will not forget, Monsignor Hogan, our Parish Priest, became a Canon.  Our Year 5 and 6 children, along with many of the St Bernadette's Parish, joined him at the St Mary's Cathedral, Coulby Newham.  Many congratulations to Monsignor Canon Hogan.

On Wednesday 23rd October at 9.30am, we celebrated Harvest Mass.  Thank you to all who joined us.

From Wednesday 16th October to Friday 18th October the Year 6 children visited Robin Wood, Northumberland with Mrs Cobbold and Mrs Davies.  They embarked on a series of Outdoor and Adventurous activities.  They had a wonderful experience and the rain stayed off!

We have been delighted to see all our new Reception children settle in this term.  They have received their 'Welcome to St Bernadette's' certificates in Whole School  Assembly and are enjoying getting to know their Year 6 Buddies.

St Bernadette's underwent an Ofsted inspection last term, on Wednesday 3rd July and Thursday 4th July.  The report has been sent out via Parentmail.

Last year, we commemorated the 40th Anniversary of the school. Celebrations included a day to reflect on how we were taught in the 1970's, an outdoor Mass in the school playground and a party with our neighbours The Avenue Primary School.

We have a rich and varied Extended Schools programme.  Using the Blue Screen, Mr Lynn made a video to celebrate all that St Bernadette's has to offer.  You can view it in the School Clubs folder.  It is very funny!

Our School

St. Bernadette's R. C. Primary School is very much a living and growing body. We strive for a culture of growth, achievement and endeavour where we 'love, learn, live and laugh' with each other. As a Roman Catholic School we are charged with the mission of educating each child as a whole person ensuring that they are cared for in such a way that their physical, moral and intellectual talents may develop in a harmonious manner.

(Code 795 of Canon Law and Catholic Education)

We strive to ensure that each child grows to their full potential in a caring community and all members of staff work together to plan, deliver and assess a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum. As a result we are able to celebrate many achievements:

  • high expectations and the ongoing maintenance of very high standards.
  • high achievements in music with successes for Choir and Recorder in local music festivals and productions
  • a wealth of extra curricular experiences including excellent wraparound child care
  • an enriched curriculum with many educational visits and visitors: theatre groups, poets, illustrators, cultural groups, music groups, sports coaches.
  • two very successful, recent Inspections.
